Lessons for Achieving Phenomenal Business Success

January was a quiet month for me. Literally.

Starting work again after the holiday season meant that I had to leave behind the voices of three females I had come to hear so much of over the festive period. Their names? Elsa, Anna and Taylor.

Like many others, I wasn’t spared from the phenomena of Frozen and Taylor Swift. And the strange thing is I’m not complaining – I’ve come to enjoy them as well.phenomenal or nothing

This led me to think about what elevated Frozen and Taylor Swift from being merely successful to being top of their game. Let’s look at some numbers.

“Frozen” has earned $1.2 billion worldwide, becoming the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time and by far the highest-grossing animation. That’s not to mention two Academy Awards, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, a soundtrack that has garnered more than a million album sales and seven million Spotify streams, official YouTube video views in the hundreds of millions, and a DVD that became Amazon’s best-selling children’s film of all time based on advance orders alone.

Taylor Swift is the only artist in 2014 to sell over a million albums in the first week of its release (the fastest-selling album in the United States in a dozen years). She is the only female artist to replace herself on the top of the music charts with back to back number one hits…

No Excuses! The Homeless Entrepreneur

It was the first week of April, 2012 and I was in Philadelphia getting prepared for the next stop of my “Less Talk…More Action” Empowerment Tour, which would be held in Philly the following week. After a long day of meetings with community partners, I stopped at my bank to take out cash from the ATM. It just so happened there was a mini rally to help the homeless happening immediately in front of my bank. No Excuses No Victim Mentality

Having a soft spot for the homeless, I stopped to talk to the coordinator of the rally to learn about the initiative and tell her why I was in Philly; I was actually hoping we might be able to support each other. Eavesdropping on our conversation was a homeless man, Jason Mercado, who after I had concluded my conversation with the coordinator, began to tell me about his story — I was sold immediately!

Jason Mercado is homeless and currently lives in a homeless shelter with over 40 others. He is one of the many tragedies of this hard economy who has entered into the realm of the impoverished. However, “down” he may be, but “out” he certainly isn’t. On that day Jason told me about the business he had started — “Just Cookies.”

So here I am on a random weeknight talking to a homeless man about some business he has created…

The Importance of Hard Work in Success

You do not come across success just by hoping for it. To achieve true success, you need the strength of mind and body to struggle and work hard to reach your fullest potential. You need the right attitude, self-discipline and the ability to put your goal before your own needs, if you are really driven towards reaching success. There is, after all no substitute for hard work, and as Henry Ford says, “The harder you work, the luckier you get” – the more successful you get!

How do you overcome success?

Intense hard work along with great skills shall help you win one success after another. There shall be innumerable obstacles strewn in your path towards success, however, what makes a man truly worthy of the success that he attains is the ability to keep struggling until he can reach his goal. Giving up after a few failed attempts makes you a loser.

“If someone decides they’re not going to be happy, it’s not your problem. You don’t have to spend your time and energy trying to cheer up someone who has already decided to stay in a bad mood. Believe it or not, you can actually hurt people by playing into their self-pity.” Joyce Meyer

Sports: What Motivates Athletes?

The Grind

In training and competitions, you arrive at a point at which it is no longer fun. I call this the Grind, which starts when it gets tiring, painful, and tedious. the Grind is also the point at which it really counts. The Grind is what separates successful athletes from those who don’t achieve their goals. Many athletes when they reach this point either ease up or give up because it’s just too darned hard. But truly motivated athletes reach the Grind and keep on going.when it hurts

Many sport psychologists will say that you have to love the Grind. I say that, except for a very few hyper-motivated athletes, love isn’t in the cards because there’s not much to love. But how you respond to the Grind lies along a continuum. As I just mentioned, loving the Grind is rare. At the other end of the continuum is “I hate the Grind.” If you feel this way, you are not likely to stay motivated. I suggest that you neither love nor hate the Grind; you just accept it as part of the deal in striving toward your goals. The Grind may not be very enjoyable, but what does feel good is seeing your hard work pay off with success…

8 Things To Be Thankful For

In our life, we sometimes spend too much time complaining about the things we do not like or have. Today, and every day, we need to take time to be happy for the blessings we do have. Take a look at this list of 8 things we should be thankful for:

1. Be thankful for family.

We are all where we are today because our parents or guardians raised us. Hopefully, we have taken all the positive lessons from them and are applying them to our lives. If you are married and have children, be thankful for the blessing of your family. If you are single, be grateful for your parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins.

2. Be thankful for friends.

True friends encourage us, motivate us, and push us to do better. Take time to call them and thank them for all the great things they have done. Show your gratitude by also being a great friend to others…

Why Are You Unsuccessful

Why Are You Unsuccessful?

“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” Johnny Cash

Life of the Unsuccessful Article by: Earl Nightingale

When I think about unsuccessful people, I think of those men and women who seem to be at the mercy of forces over which they seem helpless or uninterested in influencing. I was raised as a boy in such circumstances and came to know them well. I watched people who seemed helpless to do anything about their problems. Their most serious shortcoming was of course lack of education. They took their cues from those about them, which is the self-defeating cycle of the poor — they’re always following the wrong group.

More than any other factor, perhaps, the unsuccessful person can usually be identified with a group that is at the mercy of events. The unsuccessful person has things done to him or her. The successful person seeks autonomy and makes his or her own plans and has the self-esteem and inner excitement and knowledge to know that those plans can be followed, barring a calamity over which he or she can exercise no control. The unsuccessful person tends to focus on the calamity or ride with the punches. The successful person gives; the unsuccessful person takes. But since we cannot reap more than we sow, the unsuccessful person, sowing little, reaps little…

Self Motivation: How To Motivate Yourself

People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents. Andrew Carnegie

If you want to excel in life, self motivation is essential. You must know how to motivate yourself. You must be able to keep your spirit high no matter how discouraging a situation is. It’s Time To Let Go And Move On When You Experience These 21 Things

It’s the sad reality of life that there are times when we just have to let go and move on. This is true not only in romantic partnerships, but in work situations, living conditions, professional relationships, friendships as well. Even investments and tangible possessions can be difficult to let go of despite how destructive or demanding they might have become.

Should I stay or go? Buy or sell? Stick it out or throw in the towel? Tough choices. It’s a kind of balance between perseverance and self-preservation.

What often makes the problem worse is that while we may intellectually understand this life truth, it’s hard for us to practice. Oh, we can easily see and readily point out to others when it’s time for them to move on, but when it comes to ourselves, it’s more difficult to recognize when it’s time to say goodbye…

Choosing Life and Finding Meaning 30 Days After Dave’s Tragic Death

I have learned to ask for help — and I have learned how much help I need. Until now, I have been the older sister, the COO, the doer and the planner. I did not plan this, and when it happened, I was not capable of doing much of anything. Those closest to me took over. They planned. They arranged. They told me where to sit and reminded me to eat. They are still doing so much to support me and my children.

I have learned that resilience can be learned. Adam M. Grant taught me that three things are critical to resilience and that I can work on all three. Personalization — realizing it is not my fault. He told me to ban the word “sorry.” To tell myself over and over, This is not my fault. Permanence — remembering that I won’t feel like this forever. This will get better. Pervasiveness — this does not have to affect every area of my life; the ability to compartmentalize is healthy…
